A Message from Board of Directors Chairman: Pam Simpson
Welcome to the Leavenworth County Chapters web page. It is designed to inform residents of the many services available to them from the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is dedicated to helping make families and communities safer at home and around the world. Its mission is to provide relief to victims of disasters and to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Leavenworth County Chapter works hard every day to serve the mission of the American Red Cross. Whether an entire region is devastated by a storm or a handful of families are displaced by a flood or a fire, the Red Cross helps people with immediate needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and provides encouragement no matter the time of day or night. Helping people prepare and prevent emergencies is important to our staff and volunteers as well. Our chapters health and safety instruction programs educate thousands of residents each year. Some of these programs include: the First Aid/ CPR/AED program, water safety courses, First Aid for Children Today (F.A.C.T.), Babysitting Training, Sport Safety Training, and Basic Aid Training (B.A.T.). In addition to assisting the civilian local community, our chapter also provides assistance to members of our military community as well. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the American Red Cross provides vital services for military members and their families through its Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) program. We are also there for those far from home that are not in the military. The Leavenworth County Chapter is the resource chapter in Kansas for International Services. When a crisis strikes in another country, survivors of international disasters and wars can let their family know that they are still alive by contacting the American Red Cross. As you read the information provided in this web page, please remember that all of these services and programs are made available because of one reason: a volunteer was able to provide them. Our chapter has a very limited staff, but what we are able to accomplish is because of the support of our volunteers. I ask that you consider becoming a part of our team, even if only for a few hours a week. Think you have nothing to offer? Think again. The talents of all interested volunteers are not only appreciated, but they are greatly needed. Remember, the American Red Cross is here to help.
